One of the new features of Cuero’s newly remodeled library is a Soofa bench. The London, England-based company started by refurbishing old telephone booths before venturing into charging stations and soon learning they could do more with this innovative technology.
From Boston railway stations, the solar-powered benched are now in over 100 cities.
City of Cuero finance director Connie Hawes read about the benches in a Texas Municipal League newsletter. Now, a bench sits across from city hall on East Main.
These benches not only charge your electronic devices but provide data about visitors in the area.
“It will pick up within a 200-300 foot area IP addresses,” Hawes said. “It has the capacity that if it reads your IP address more than so many times within an eight hour period, it recognizes you as one person.”
